
Your first priority is to get your general message out clearly and fast. For example, if you’re a pizza company and you want to catch someone’s attention you may want to have a big header that reads, “Best Pizza in Town”. A headline like this does one of two things, it tells the person that you’re selling pizza and it’s the best in town which delivers the value point to the customer. Once you get the customer reading you can sell the whole menu to them if you like. The next big thing in design is color. You want your door hanger to stand out so that the person can see it from far away while they are approaching the door. Make sure you remember the main point is to deliver your headline, so don’t make the color so distracting that it takes away from the headline completely. Following the headline you should have an effective sub headline. If they’ve read the headline chances are you got them hooked, reaffirm their interest with the sub headline. Taking our pizza example, you can introduce a popular product they might be interested in – “Try Our Famous Spicy Pizza” The rest of the door hanger should just provide general information, perhaps a menu.
