When you are considering this type of marketing campaign there are specific terms that will be particularly helpful to know.<\/p>\n

Presorted<\/span> <\/strong>means the mailing software sorts the list by zip code \u2013 first by the 5 digits of the zip code and then by the first 3 digits then everything else is \u201cmixed\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Automated<\/span> <\/strong>means a bar-code is printed on the piece. The bar-code represents the delivery point address and is a series of bars that is read by the postal machines. The space needed to ink jet the bar-code is 4\u201d wide by 2\u201d tall. Preparing mail automated presorted gets you the cheapest postage.<\/p>\n

If there is no room for a bar-code, the mail may be prepared presorted which will still give you cheaper postage rates than if it is not presorted. That\u2019s considered non-automated presorted.<\/span><\/p>\n

Machinable <\/strong>means the mail piece can run through the postal machines and the address is read by the machines. This refers to the size of the piece and the ratio of the length vs the height of the piece.<\/p>\n

Non-machinable<\/strong>e<\/span> means the size ratio does not meet requirements to be read by the postal machines and a postal employee must read the address and process the mail. This postage is more expensive.<\/p>\n
